Everyday Is Your Birthday

Today is my son’s birthday. The tradition in our family is to decorate the staircase and kitchen the previous night and have presents displayed so they can be opened first thing in the morning.

Life is filled with many wonderful things. There is simply nothing better than a day at the lake or the sound and smell of crackling wood in a fireplace. A really good book is a treasure for many or a perfectly grilled steak.

Someone told me recently their life, over the past two years, resembles a Costco-sized package of disappointment and sadness. Unexpected death, financial loss, and severed family relationships have walked hand in hand with the strains of life during a pandemic.

Life Is Not Fair

I will always remember the first day of my senior year in high school. After homeroom, I went to English Literature with Mr. Finlayson. Without saying a word, he arrested our attention by writing ‘Life Is Not Fair’ on the board.
